Eco-School
Throughout the last few years we have developed our commitment to the Eco school project.
We were delighted to be awarded the silver award in 2013; ‘For our achievement in a sustainable lifestyle’ and we were awarded the green flag in 2018.
We have set up a small recycling station within the reception area to allow the community to recycle:
- Ink Cartridges & Toners
- Mobile Phones
- Batteries (please make sure they are not leaking)
The nursery also has solar panels on the roof allowing us to generate power to heat our water and put back in to the grid what we don't use.
What is Eco- Schools?
Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging millions of children across 64 different countries, making it the largest environmental schools programme in the world. It raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and also creates financial savings for schools. It also engages the wider local community and makes links to the curriculum.
The children and staff at Bayonne have been working towards maintaining our Green Flag award which we achieved in May 2018 and are due to renew our application to keep our Green flag in May this year.

Our Eco Committee
We have an Eco-Committee that consisting of children, parents and staff that meets at least once a term to improve the nursery environment and develop children's awareness and understanding of environmental issues.
The children have completed an Environmental Review of the nursery which covers all of the Eco-Schools 10 topics: energy, litter, waste/recycling, water, transport, healthy living, bio-diversity, school grounds, global citizenship and marine. This will enable the Eco-committee to develop an action plan and work towards achieving its goals.

Big Schools Bird Watch 2022
Spring 2020
Big Schools Bird Watch 2020
The children have been taking part in the 'Big School Bird Watch' over the past couple of weeks. They have been developing their skills in waiting patiently and using their binoculars to spot, count and record the birds in our nursery garden. When we have finished collecting our data, we will upload our results on the RSPB website. If you are interested in taking part at home please find more information on https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/
Second Hand Clothes Collection
We organised a second hand clothes collection for reuse in partnership with bag2school. Bag2school helps to promote reuse of clothes and shoes to benefit those who rely on 2nd hand clothes as their sole option for good quality items. Bag2school collects and sell unwanted textiles to importers and wholesalers in many countries of Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and Asia. All to benefit the Circular Economy.
Waste Week
For one week in March the children will be helping to monitor our project in Waste Week. The initiative encourages schools to focus on one area of waste reduction. This year we will be looking at weighing and recording how much food waste we produce. The school community will then discuss the results and see what actions are required.
Autumn 2019
Reducing Energy
In November the nursery children took part in “Switch off Fortnight". The whole nursery has been involved in turning off unnecessary lights and electrical equipment and parents were encouraged to take part at home.
Litter picking
The children have been carrying out weekly litter picks around the school grounds to help keep the area looking clean and tidy as well as protecting the biodiversity in the area.
